New Champetas from Colombia
- 24 May, 2011Our good friend Fabian Altahona, who runs the Africolombia blog, recently sent us a selection of champetas from the last 10 years. Champeta is the sound of Afro-Colombia and these represent the songs that you would typically find in Colombian cities such as Cartagena and Barranquilla.
We’d previously featured a mixtape from Fabian, entitled El Picó, which focused on classic Afro-Colombian music. These champetas here are all about the current sounds which you will regularly find on the picó soundsystems in Colombia.

Buena esa Fabi!!!
If you want the real Champeta sound go to Turbo. Streets are alive with music! Spent two weeks in the area, you can go up the coast to Capurgana if you’re adventurous. Amazing!
