The Sound

The Sound Weekly – 26th November 2010

There was a time when Sounds and Colours used to publish a weekly newsletter covering all the great things happening on Sounds and Colours itself, as well as the wide world of the web. We stopped this as things kept cropping up and we never quite managed to get it done on time, or just simply had to postpone it. Well this week we are having a little revivial, with some recommendations of articles to check out on the web. Starting off with a few differing opinions of relations between Bolivia and the US we then go off to all other manner of topics. The one thing you can always be certain with South America is that there is never a dull moment! Continue Reading

The Sound Weekly — 2nd July 2010

July is here! Which in the world of Sounds and Colours means it’s Brazil month! And it really couldn’t be a better time to celebrate this country. The Selecao (Brazilian football team) is still in the World Cup, London is ablaze with Festival Brazil, the Brazilian Film Festival and Blaze Festival, and will soon be celebrating National Brazilian Day, and artists such as Caetano Veloso, Seu Jorge and Cibelle are releasing great albums which are getting international success. Plus, things will only get better with more and more interest in the country, especially in light of the fact they will be holding the 2014 World Cup and that the 2016 Olympics will be in Rio. We will also be trying our best to celebrate the country and have a tonne of content lined up throughout the month of July which should hopefully show you exactly what Brazil is all about. To start off with we have some very exciting features and interviews which can be viewed online now. Continue Reading

The Sound Weekly — 25th June 2010

Well, I hope everyone else is enjoying the World Cup as much as we are – it’s been a dream for the South American teams so far and I really hope this continues!

I wanted to quickly get in a nod for Fabian Altahona, the head honcho over at Africolombia’s blog who very kindly told us some of his favourite Afro-Colombian tunes. You can now download the mix here at Sounds and Colours. Some classic Wganda Kenya and Afrosound to be enjoyed there. He also then kindly ran an article on Sounds and Colours which can be found here, so full props to Fabian. Cheers mate!

The Sound Weekly — 31st May 2010

The Sound is our weekly round-up of everything exciting that’s happened over the last week and everything exciting that will be happening over the next seven days.

The last seven days have been extremely busy as we have tried to get this site where it wants to be. Initially it wanted to go to Greece but we had a few words, and sensibly it mumbled out the word ‘Cali’ and we knew we’d peer-pressured it into saying exactly what we wanted it to say, which felt great. Which brings us round to one of the new revelations on the site. Each month we will be focusing on a different country and putting together a number of features related to the country. The month of June has been devoted to Colombia. See the ‘I Want More’ section below for the various Colombia items we have this week, and remember that these will grow as we progress through the month.
