Cidadão Instigado vs Mauro Pawlowski

Here’s a clip from the Vamos Brasil festival – which took place in Belgium last year – featuring one of our favourite Brazilian bands Cidadão Instigado rehearsing with Belgian musicians Mauro Pawlowski and Rodrigo Fuentealba. The festival was part of Europalia Brasil, a huge event that happened in Belgium to promote Brazilian culture. This clip definitely makes us wish we’d been there!

Banda De Turistas – Cada Dia

New video here from Banda de Turistas, our favourite Argentine psych pop combo. This track is called “Cada Dia” and is taken from their latest album Ya. You can find out more about Banda de Turistas by reading our interview with the band.

Félix y Los Clavos – Babel

It seems quite clear that we haven’t featured Félix y Los Clavos anywhere near enough. Their album Continuará – released last year – kind of crept up on us and probably should have featured heavily on our Best Albums of 2011 list. That didn’t happen, but this video just has, and it’s rather special. So, here is “Babel” by Félix y Los Clavos:

Pedropiedra – En Esta Mansión

A brand new video clip here from Chile’s Pedropiedra, taken from his extremely good album Cripta y Vida.

Ana Tijoux – Shock

Ana Tijoux will be releasing her new album La Bala on January 31st. We’ve had a sneak preview and it sounds great. Here’s a little taster of the album, in the shape of the lead single “Shock”:

Gepe – Campos Magnéticos

Here is the video for “Campos Magnéticos”, the first single from Gepegepegepe, Gepe‘s forthcoming new album, and one we hope will be just as good as it’s predecessor Audiovision, one of our favourite albums of 2010.

Karol Conka – The New Face of Brazilian Hip-Hop

We made a bit of a fuss about the latest Criolo album, making it our best album of 2011 as well as calling it the future of Brazilian hip-hop. Well, it looks like Karol Conka could be making that future come a lot quicker. From the emerging Curitiba hip-hop scene, Conka – like Criolo – mixes traditional Brazilian music with the harder sound of modern hip-hop, while also revealing a love for MPB and samba. Hip-hop in Brazil has always either aped Western hip-hop or gone to the other extreme, becoming insular within it’s scenes in Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro. It’s exactly this kind of insularity that Karol Conka is intending to fight, carrying on the work of Chico Science and Nacao Zumbi in the 90s.

Here is a brand new clip of Conka in action, performing “Gandaia” off her upcoming self-titled debut album:

If you want more, Conka released a promo earlier this year featuring seven tracks, which you can listen to below:

Afrofuturismo with Nana Vasconcelos

Ekundayo, a new project featuring Mike Ladd, Rob Mazurek, Guilherme Granado, Mauricio Takara, Rodrigo Brandao, Lurdez da Luz, Nana Vasconcelos and Scotty Hard, was one of our favourite things about 2011. Here is Vasconcelos talking about the project as well as the concept of afrofuturismo:

You can read our review of Ekundayo here.

Eneroserámio – Alamo

Eneroserámio is a new collaboration between Sol Fernandez, Javier Mareco, Gabriel Pardo and Juan Manuel Mayo. Tracks range from “Alamo” with its heavy bass and slowcore drive, and more indie-rock affairs such as “Piedro Mal”.

You can listen to more Eneroserámio at eneroseramio.bandcamp.com and eneroseramio.com.

Júlia Says – To The Freaks

Brand new video from Brazil’s electro kings Júlia Says. This is “To The Freaks” off their Violência album:

New Video from Chilean rappers Como Asesinar a Felipes

Here’s the brand new video from Chile’s much under-rated Como Asesinar a Felipes. This is the first video to come from their album Colores y Cadáveres:

Sérgio Sampaio – Eu Quero É Botar Meu Bloco na Rua

We just wanted to share with you this classic from the Brazilian singer and composer Sergio Sampaio:
