Colombian Bleepolar‘s four-track EP Chiquita harks back to the acid-tinged days of early techno, acts like Future Sound of London, Orbital and even Aphex Twin’s mellower moments. Yet amidst the galloping beats, echoing sound effects and expansive synths Bleepolar adds an extra rhythmic element to this sound.

Additional percussion gives the principle beats extra force, most notably on “Nocturna” while the beats themsleves sound acoustic at times and could either be processed real drum sounds or manipulated electronic sounds; it’s actually hard to tell.

Perhaps the most appropriate tag for Bleepolar’s music is IDM, because as with that style this is music that slowly reveals itself – beautifully illustrated on opening track “Atarraya” – adding layer of layer of intriguing textures and rhythms. All in all, a whole album of this calibre would be more than welcome.

BleepolarChiquita is available as a download from Hipi Duki Muzik.
