It seems quite clear that we haven’t featured Félix y Los Clavos anywhere near enough. Their album Continuará – released last year – kind of crept up on us and probably should have featured heavily on our Best Albums of 2011 list. That didn’t happen, but this video just has, and it’s rather special. So, here is “Babel” by Félix y Los Clavos:
Each year Ethical Traveler choose 10 countries from the developing world which it feels have made serious accomplishments in the areas of environmental protection, social welfare and human rights. El Hipnotizador Romantico are a five-pieve group from the Mataderos neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. On their self-titled debut album they pitch themselves somewhere between the romantic pop of Rufus Wainwright and the restless musicality of Beirut. The album was released in September this year and is currently awaiting it’s physical release.

Sebastian Litmanovich has managed to infiltrate the worldwide indie scene more than most under his moniker of Cineplexx. Currently based in London he has collaborated with such indie rock stalwarts as Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Duglas Stewart (BMX Bandits) and Jad Fair, and appeared on the Television Personalities tribute All Those Times We Spent Together.
In 2009 Cineplexx released Nuevahola on the cult record label Cherry Red Records. In 2012 they will release their next release Perfume, an album that will surely carry on the infectious, dreamy pop that they have been mastering for quite some time now. Here is the first video to be released from the album, “Crawl O Mariposa”:
The great people at Si No Puedo Bailar featured another new track from Cineplexx on their recent pick of the 20 Best Songs of 2011, and here it is:

Every once in a while, a film appears which seems to come out of nowhere, but which touches everyone who sees it. The way it happens is that usually the film festival circuit see it first: programmers, critics and those few lucky discerning members of the public who might rave about it to their friends without ever knowing if the film will see the light of day again. Las Acacias is one of these films. Continue Reading

This is a new video from Isla de los Estados, a three-piece from Argentina with an icy electro-pop sound. This particular song reminds us of something from the early 90s that we just can’t place right now, something from that period of ambient house full of eerie, simplistic melodies and slow, nuanced vocals. Once we remember who we’re thinking of, we’ll be sure to let you know. Here’s “Balanceo”:

“There are no statistics of the soul. There is no way to measure the depth of the cultural wound… we cannot know to what point we have been mutilated in our consciousness, our identity and our memory.”
— Eduardo Galeano
Like many of her contemporaries, Silvia Malagrino left Argentina in 1978 to escape the repressive military dictatorship. Three decades later, she filmed her return, reflecting her desire to know and remember her abandoned country, to find a way to be present and absent from the histories that haunt her. New album Songs For An Imaginary Film from Les Mentettes, previously knows as Les Mentettes Orchestra, a motley bunch of musicians from Argentina. Their sound has echoes of the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev and the bands that they influenced, but has it’s own charm too. With lyrics in English, it’s clear this is definitely a band planning big things. Continue Reading
